A certain inevitability

I’m in India, so it was bound to happen at some point; and indeed it has.

They have arrived.

Stomach cramps, diarrhoea the works.

I’ve spent the last 48 hours in a strange state between lucidity and sleep. Each period punctuated by an urgent need to visit the smallest room. I think I’m over the worst but I’m not in the clear yet. The rumblings in my stomach are a constant reminder of that.

The circumstances in which this has occurred or ironic. Three years ago I visited the second largest Hindu temple in the world, Ankor Wat. Within a short while of arriving I was taken quite ill and it took me ages to recover. On Sunday I visited the another of the largest Hindu temples in the world at Mahabalipuram. Within the minutes of arriving I felt an uncomfortable familiarity and I didn’t just mean the architecture.

Basically I’ve managed to visit the two of largest temples in the world and almost soiled myself in both. I only wonder how many people I share that record with, as I suspect it is not many.
